1) when we celebrate Mahashivarathri
Mahashivratri festival will be celebrated on Saturday, February 18 2023 as per Hindu calendar Mahashivaratri 2023 will be celebrated on Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi in Magha month. According to mythological beliefs, Shivalinga is said to have manifested itself on the festival day of Mahashivaratri. Brahma and Vishnu worshiped Shivalinga for the first time on this day. On the day of Mahashivratri it is mandatory to perform Shiva Puja, fasting and Abhishekam. According to some other religious belief, Shiva and mother Parvati are also said to have married. This article tells about Mahashivratri 2023 auspicious time, worship method, significance.

3) Method of shivarathri pooja
If you fast on Mahashivaratri, observe the fast a day earlier and do not eat revenge food.
- On Chaturdashi i.e. Mahashivratri, get up early in the morning and take bath etc. and wear clean clothes.
- On this day if you go to the temple and anoint the Shivlinga it will give you good results.
- If you cannot go to the temple, you can worship Lord Shiva at home. At home anoint the Shivlinga with raw milk and water.
- Offer Sandalwood, Molly Dara, Betel nut, Nut, Aksate, Panchamrita, Bilvapatra, Dhatura, Fruit-Flower, Coconut etc. in Puja to Lord Shiva.
- Fasting on this day. You can take fruit while fasting.
- Worship Lord Shiva with Mother Parvati and organize Rudrabhishekam at home.
- Complete the pooja by chanting Shiva mantras and perform aarti after the pooja.
- Special importance is given to performing puja on this day and night.
- After this one should go to Shiva temple on the next day and complete the fast.
4)Significance of Mahashivratri:
Shiva devotees observe Lord Shiva specially on this day and fast. Visit the Shiva temple and get darshan of Lord Shiva. They offer milk to Shivalinga and pray for salvation. Shiva devotees observe night vigil on Mahashivaratri day, worship Lord Shiva and chant Shiva mantras. Women pray to Lord Shiva for a good husband and a happy married life. It is believed that those who do Shiva Puja and fasting on this day will get good luck.
